Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to purchase any equipment?
A: NO! Blueriver provides the equipment for a reasonable monthly fee. 2 line capable adapters are $5.00 per month, 4 line capable adapters are $10.00 per month, 8 line capable adapters are $20.00 per month.

Q: Are there any other up front costs?
A: NO! With a 1 year commitment, we will install the equipment at your home or office and port 1 telephone number at no cost to you.

Q: Can I port more than 1 existing number?
A: Yes! Each additional ported number has a one time charge of $35.00. However, if you don't want to bring additional existing numbers, Blueriver can assign you new numbers from our pool at no cost. These new numbers will work exactly like your old numbers.

Q: What about data service devices, such as security systems, fax machines, satellite receivers, etc.
A: While the items are not supported, generally they do work. We need to know about them up front so that we can optimize your line for them to work, however some hardware just isn't compatible with VOIP technology.

Q: Will I have access to 911 services?
A: Yes, however Blueriver VOIP 911 does work slightly differently than conventional 911. See the full details here.

Q: Is VOIP affected by power outages?
A:Generally yes. Blueriver strongly recommends that you purchase a battery back up unit to plug your equipment into to ensure that your phone will work during short term power outages. Blueriver's main office is on an automatic natural gas generator as well as battery back-ups to ensure that our switching equipment never goes down. Additionally, Blueriver uses battery back-ups at each of our tower sites to provide power for up to 2 hours in the event of a power failure and has portable generators to deploy at tower sites in the event of a longer term outage.

Q: Can I use existing telephones?
A: Generally, yes. Most phones 10 years old or less will have no problems. Rotary telephones are not supported and will not work.
