Children's Room at the Steven's Museum

Among the cornucopia of information for adults, the children will greatly enjoy our children's room,horse which features.

  • Dozens of dolls from the 1900's.
  • Dozens of model cars, trucks, boats, and airplanes from the 1900's.
  • Many displays of insects such as butterflies, bees, moths, and aphids all labeled and identified.
  • Captivating display of geological rocks, labeled and identified for your information.
  • Large hand crafted doll house scaling more than five feet tall!
The Dean Gallery at the Steven's Museum

Our turn of the century house features displays from the inside of a house from the early 1900's, including:model

  • Dining room area, featuring delicate china and furniture.
  • Kitchen area, with a range and various other cooking utensils and equipment.
  • Bedroom area features vintage furniture and accessories.

The Dean Gallery also features:

  • Sports memorabilia and displays from Salem, Eastern, and West Washington High Schools.
  • Quilts
  • Clothing and fashion styles from the turn of the century.
Display Galleries at the Steven's Museum

The main display gallery features exciting displays of Salem's earliest foundations, institutions, and artifactsmodel including, but not limited to:

  • Early confectionary.
  • Full scale model of an early dentist's office.
  • Early doctor's office model.
  • Display of early lawyer's office.
  • Dozens of displays on quilts, county past times, and more.

Other displays include a Civil War room, featuring actual artillery and equipment. Plus, dozens of rifles, pistols, and other guns.

The Depot Railway Museum

A recent addition to the John Hay Center is the construction of the Train Depot's Monon railway exhibit. Constructed by local High School students a few years ago, the train depot includes dozens of train models, replicas, and fascinating historical information that is entertaining for train enthusiasts of all ages. Although the Depot Museum is only a small portion of the John Hay Center, the Steven's Museum offers an endless wealth of information and exhibits that is certain to entice a person of any age.
